The comedy “No. 13” staged by the Astana Musical State Theatre has become one of the audience’s favorite productions, consistently selling out and bringing genuine laughter to viewers.

The play “No. 13” by English playwright Ray Cooney is one of the most successful comedies performed on theatre stages around the world. It has entered the golden collection of British theatre as one of the best English comedies of the 20th century.

The story follows politician Richard Willey, who chooses leisure over public duty and spends time in room No. 13 of a five-star hotel with the secretary of his political rival. However, their evening takes an unexpected turn when they discover a dead body by the hotel window. From that moment, a series of hilarious and unpredictable events begins.

Combining elements of various genres, the performance is filled with dynamic action, political satire, and unexpected twists that evoke a wide range of emotions from the audience. Each character and performance leaves a vivid impression. Rather than exploring themes of good and evil, the production is primarily aimed at entertaining the audience and creating an atmosphere of laughter and enjoyment.

The director of the production and the theatre’s artistic director, Y. Nurtazin, paid special attention to revealing each character’s personality through specially composed musical pieces.

Blending the director’s imagination with the actors’ artistic freedom, the performance delivered bright emotions and an uplifting atmosphere to the audience.
